¹ According to local legend, Jesus Christ will descend from this minaret on the eve of the Last Judgment, which will come in 50,000 years (Quran 70:4).
² He is also the Prophet Yahya in the Muslim tradition (Qur’an 3:34). Here rests the head of the saint, allegedly found in 705 A.D. in one of the underground vaults when the basilica was rebuilt into a mosque. Today the site is equally revered by Christians and Muslims alike (S. Medvedko and D. Osipov).
